What to do with kids in the illawarra at Christmas time?
Black Duck Studio holds creative workshops every year from October onwards to make Christmas decorations out of clay. Making ceramic decorations is so much more special than simply buying them from the store!
Come in to make some ceramic Christmas tree decorations, or some Christmas ornaments for your table, and treasure them for years to come.
If you’d prefer you could just come in to paint a Christmas bauble, or paint a Christmas themed ceramic piece!

Paint a Christmas Bauble $30
all ages welcome – take home on the same day!
The Christmas classic! What to do with the family at Christmas time in the Illawarra?
Well you just need to make a tradition of painting your own Christmas bauble each year!
Includes a ceramic bauble that has been locally handmade, fired once in the kiln, and we provide acrylic paints and a clear gloss varnish to seal your artwork.
Optional upgrade to add a name stamped into the bauble for $10 extra !
Make a Christmas Lantern $30 - $50
all ages welcome – take home on the same day!
Get the whole family working creatively this Christmas with our Christmas lantern workshop.
Make a tea light candle holder in a Christmas tree shape. Or a little house shape! Perfect to put on your mantle this Christmas!
Air dry clay and a clear gloss varnish only (no painting).
Christmas Tree Decorations $40
all ages welcome – take home on the same day!
Very simple class for all ages! We roll out the clay into a flat slab then use cookie cutters and stamps to make Christmas themed decorations!
You will be given the clay and hand tools, and can make as many as you like with the clay provided.
Air dry clay workshop, and paint with acrylic paint.
Christmas Ceramic Plate $45 to $65
all ages welcome – pick up 4 to 5 weeks later
Using earthenware clay, we will show everyone how to roll out the clay and lay it inside a template to create a plate.
You can then decorate the plate with underglaze colours (these are just like paint, anyone can do it!)
This is a kiln-fired clay workshop, with painting included. Plate will be ready for pick-up 4 to 5 weeks later.
We cannot guarantee it will be ready by Christmas day, our studio goes crazy this time of year!!!
