Sgraffito Plate - Two-day Workshop
30th & 31st May 2026
Book a weekend of creative time!
Have you ever seen people carving into leatherhard clay?
It is sooo satisfying! In this 2 part workshop, you come along on the Saturday to make with clay and paint your background colour.
Then we leave your plates on the table to dry out a little bit… then the next day, you come back and carve your very own design into the plate!
Carved Mug - Two-day Workshop
18th & 19th July 2026
Book a weekend of creative time!
This mug workshop is a little bit special, because, not only do you make your very own mug; you get to do the satisfying carving thing!
Day 1 – arrive, get excited, hand-build a mug
Day 2 – arrive, get excited, your mug will be leatherhard, and you can carve a design into your mug!
Mishima Vase - Two-day Workshop
5th & 6th September 2026
Book a weekend of creative time!
Mishima is a surface design technique where you carve a pattern and then in-lay colour into the carvings.
We make this easy by using a wax resist paint on your vase.
On the first day, you hand build your vase, using pinch and coil techniques, then the day after you come back to decorate the surface with carvings and paint!
Christmas Lantern - Two-day Workshop
14th & 15th November 2026
Book a weekend of creative time!
Get some ceramics made in time for a Christmas display!
One of our most popular sessions at Christmas time is to hand make with clay – then punch some holes once the clay is leatherhard the next day. Perfect to place a tealight candle underneath and see the light to come through!
This two-day clay workshop includes either a house lantern, or a tree lantern, or a combination of both!

My daughter has had the best term at Black Duck Ceramics. She's loved it so much she's signing up again. Black Duck Ceramics gives children lots of experiences playing with clay in multiple ways.Posted on Elena King5 June 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had the best time at Black Duck Studio! The whole experience was so easy, fun and unique. The studio, setup and equipment were all top notch, the customer service was outstanding, the location was ideal, and the ease of booking and making payments through a personalised link was a welcome relief and a really nice touch. Eliza, our host, was amazing. She managed our group exceptionally well and made the experience exactly what we wanted. From the minute I walked in, she was friendly, relaxed, fun, easy to chat with and so very helpful. She made the workshop really entertaining and productive and interacted with us in the best possible way. She gave us excellent guidance and instruction, as well as space to enjoy ourselves while also paying close attention to us and ensuring we were happy with our handy work. Eliza demonstrated her skills and professionalism as an artist and a host, making us feel beyond thankful that we were in the most capable hands. She also subtly kept us on schedule—a hard task with our group! I could rave about Eliza for hours… I can't thank Black Duck Studio enough for being part of Kirsten's hens and making my life so much easier as her maid of honour. It really is much appreciated and we’re very keen to come to another workshop at Black Duck Studio in the future 🙂Posted on Trent Featherstone21 May 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Such a fun way to spend a Saturday night. Something different and creative with a few drinks and the girls teaching were great! Highly recommend :)Posted on Christie Fearns13 May 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Black Duck Studio's classes for high schoolers are fantastic. The teacher is really supportive and knowledgeable. There is no pressure - kids can follow their own interests or do prescribed activities if they are more comfortable with that. They have created a really lovely and welcoming place, especially for creative introverts!Posted on T Williams3 March 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
